I have always been a passionate advocate for mental health and wellbeing. My nursing roles have always held a component of teaching and educating as well as mentoring. From my roles within our public health service as a District Nurse Educator and following completion of my masters in mental health nursing I have held various casual academic roles at a range of universities across Sydney and Brisbane. Recently I have been commissioned by a Private Mental Health Hospital to develop and present Mental health nursing Education packages for their staff.
I am a teacher/educator with a versatile and eclectic teaching style. I design programs to cater to the needs of the group of mentorees/participants and adapt to their needs through an interactive learning environment; encompassing their unique levels of skill and personalities. My focus is very much individual and team strengths based and engaging strongly in team strengthening activities to encourage team cohesiveness. This increases both professional and personal resilience which enhance nursing care.
My personable and down to earth personality aides in the formation of a safe and dynamic environment for the mentoree/participants to challenge their thought process and develop their clinical skills as a holistic practitioner.
My professional nursing experience is diverse having been fortunate to the have worked in the public and private health care sector; I have a developed a broad range of knowledge with differential diagnosis, treatment plans and changeable levels of risk involved in the mental health setting. I am also a Clinical Supervisor and often provide individual or group Clinical Supervision sessions for Mental Health Clinicians as part of their developing practice and in times of crisis for support and reflection.
love creating and developing education packages which are tailored specifically to suit the learning needs of the services, organisations and teams I work with. Usually I meet with the manger of the organisation and we discuss their specific needs from there I tailor the mental health and wellbeing education to meet the needs of the organisation. This has been successful and is something I enjoy greatly. Feedback has been incredibly positive from both the participants and the organisations. Participants reporting their increase knowledge, fun learning environment and increase in confidence in their roles and knowledge base. Organisations reporting an increase in positivity in the work environments, improved team work and significant improvement in clinical practice and confidence in their teams.
